Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Community

Compassion & Choices is determined to help all diverse communities realize an end-of-life journey according to their values and priorities, including the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community. Underserved communities experience a lower quality of end-of-life care and support for end-of-life planning. We began our outreach efforts in 2017 to address racial disparities in quality end-of-life care and support for end-of-life planning.

Improving access to end-of-life care options across the states

The following states where medical aid in dying is authorized also have significant populations of residents who identify as Asian American, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. This underscores the importance of Compassion & Choices’ outreach to these communities.

As part of our Access Campaigns, we are making our materials as accessible as possible to AANHPI communities.

Building partnerships

Compassion & Choices leadership councils represent diverse groups of executives, community leaders and experts in the fields of medicine, estate planning and more. They meet regularly and work tirelessly to advance the mission of expanding options and improving care at the end of life in their communities. We are currently developing a council to ensure we meet the needs of AANHPI communities and communicate in a culturally competent way. If you are interested in being a part of the council, please contact Alyssa Cowan at [email protected] for more information.
