Key updates to the law:
The mandatory waiting period between oral requests is reduced from 15 to seven days, or waived entirely if the patient is unlikely to survive the wait.
Advanced practice registered nurses with prescriptive authority can now serve as attending and consulting providers.
The Colorado End-of-Life Options Act went into effect on December 16, 2016, authorizing the compassionate option of medical aid in dying for terminally ill adults to get a prescription they can take to end their suffering peacefully.
